The Art Cart Cometh!

If you are going to bring your child, grandchild or best mate along to Tales of Birbal on November 3rd then you will get a craft session as well – free of charge!

The show is part of the Big Imaginations Festival of Children’s Theatre, and this creative extra is all part of the fun. Cheshire Rural Touring Arts have acquired the services of local artist Andy Leigh who will have all the material to produce some of the items featured in the show. I think crows might feature!

If you have tickets you can come along about 5.00pm and join in the fun with Andy before the show starts at 6.00pm.

 Tickets for the show are very much available both online and at the Post Office and are priced at £6 for grown-ups and £4 for children.  Promoter Sue Hardacre says “It seems that people are taking a bit of time to make up their minds, but I am sure that this colourful production of tales from India will entertain”

 

A comment from a parent who has recently seen the show says in a Facebook post to Mashi Theatre “Just wanted to drop a quick note to say how fantastic the show was!! I came to see you today at Melton Library, with my three year old and six year old daughters, and we all LOVED the show! Thank you!”

Sue says, “The show is advertised for 5/6 year olds, but this sounds that even younger children will enjoy it”

Improvement Plans Approved

At their Committee meeting on Tuesday evening (Oct 3rd) the Community Centre Committee agreed to start development work on Phase One of their Improvement Plan. This consists of work to the Main Hall that is intended to improve conditions for all users. The work to be undertaken is:

New suspended ceiling

New lighting to create a wide variety of effects for different events.

Power operated black-out blinds on the mansard windows to remove the sound -deadening  curtains

Improvements to the high-level walkway to improve safety.

Alan Wilkinson, Chairman of the Committee said “We have ambitious plans for the Centre but need to split the work into manageable sections. This first phase is intended to bring benefits to most Centre users. The work should cost about £80,000 so we must now produce a properly costed and detailed plan to put before potential grant – awarding bodies”

The continued regular use of the building and the support of the community for events has enabled the Community Centre to amass a fund of about £35,000 to put towards the building works. The new storage building, due to start in December, has already been budgeted for and the Committee always keep a significant fund in reserve to meet contingences. Alan says, “It is essential that the support we get from the community is translated into necessary and obvious improvements to the Centre so that everyone can benefit from them. Everything we make from the support we get will be ploughed back into the building”

Improvements to be looked at in Phase Two focus on updating the stage including lighting, access from the Hall and technical ancillaries.

The Committee is also very keen to improve the heating and ventilation system, but appreciates that this is the responsibility of the landlord, CW&C. While appreciating that budgets are tight, they agreed to ask CW&C to consider replacing the existing system with more modern and efficient one that would be cost-effective in the long term.

CARETAKER VACANCY

Since CWaC made a number of Caretakers redundant, we have had various issues/problems in retaining the service that was so ably provided by Rob. We always knew floors would be clean and facilities would be ready and laid out as necessary for customer hirings.

Now that such services are out-sourced by the Council, there has been great difficulty in providing the service that was agreed when the lease was granted. Because of this, it has been agreed that we can advertise for such a position. The Caretaker would be working as part of Qwest, reporting to the Cleaning Manager, for 15 hours a week with an element of flexibility.
